Welcome aboard! Today we offer you the first installment of a summer long book study on Explore Like A Pirate by Michael Matera. Join us each Tuesday as we go through the book and share our Ah-has! and ideas on the concept of game-inspired course design.
What is gamification and game-based course design? Well, in short, it's a way of presenting the content you already teach with elements of gaming infused throughout.
Who can use game-based instruction? Anyone, in any grade, with any content. Why? Because it's driven by YOUR creativity, not the curriculum.
Students today are gamers, high-tech and low-tech. What better way to teach the content than by using an exciting avenue our students are already inclined and accustomed to?
Over the next few weeks, we'll discuss what game-based design is and isn't and ways you can use these teaching strategies in your own classroom to engage, enrich, and elevate your learners.
Thanks for stopping by and feel free to link up with us with your own thoughts on chapter 1. And be sure to check us out next Tuesday for chapter 2.
