Five for Friday (5/20/16)

Happy Friday, y'all! It's our LAST FRIDAY OF THE SCHOOL YEAR!!!!! It's all a little bittersweet. I know you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, here's this week's Five for Friday:

This week, I started reading The Innovators Mindset. This is a must read this summer! It's easy to read and full of inspiring ideas and Aha! moments.

In class, we've been reading Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer. I found this awesome book study to go along with it. Today is movie day so we can compare and contrast the book and the movie. The kidletts are also writing their own dares for the summer this afternoon. RARE!

Next Tuesday is Multicultural Night at our school. Each class is researching a different country and making a presentation to go with it. I'm big on having the kids put together their projects so they can take ownership of the whole thing. This is what they came up with:

It's not a work of art, but it was created by them, for them so it's perfect.

Yesterday was field day. It was raining all day here in Central Texas so it was kind of disappointing. An hour in the morning is not the same as the all day event we were looking forward to. But they still managed to have a good time.

I gave the kids the task of teaching the class something they are an expert on and had them develop their own lesson plan to go with it. We've had a couple directed drawings, a lesson on swimming (on the classroom rug), a "How to Make S'mores" lesson (double thanks to the mom who brought in the supplies to do it! Yum!), an "All About Washington" from my student who just moved here, and several others. This little beauty gave us a little presentation about dragons. (According to her this is NON-fiction!)

Check out her stance. She will definitely be an excellent teacher if she so chooses!

And BONUS: If you haven't been to the GoNoodle blog lately, you should definitely go check out their end of the year freebies. They have a word search that helped fill the time on our rained out field day and a summer banner printable that we turned into a sentence strip hat. Too cool!

And that's a wrap. Thanks for stopping by! Now head over to Doodle Bugs Teaching for more Five for Friday action. Have a great weekend!
