Spotlight Saturday (8/1/15)

Happy Saturday! It's time for Spotlight Saturday, hosted by Erin at Kindergarten Dragons

This week, I'd like to share a few back to school resources I've been working on. There's been a big push lately for student maintained data binders. In kindergarten, this is a big deal. We're still working on holding a pencil, so keeping up with our own academic progress is an adventure. So…kinder data binders need to be VERY kid friendly. Here's my version:

It includes a color and a black and white cover option.

There are pages for students to record the letters and sounds, sight words, numbers, colors, coins they know.

Students can graph their progress using a different color each time they get closer to their goal.

There are prompts for creating and monitoring their learning goals...

…as well as a page for keeping track of writing skills.

Students can record the numbers recognized, how high they can count, and whether they can count to 100 by 1's, 2's, 5's, and 10's.

To get them started, you may need a quick beginning of the year assessment set.

There are teacher recording pages (you know, cause at the beginning of the year, your littles may make some mistakes in their data collection)...

…and assessment cards for each section.

But it shouldn't be all work and no play, so here's some free play dough mats to work on number recognition and 1 to 1 correspondence.

How much longer do you have until school starts? Swing by Kindergarten Dragons for some more great resources and have a great day!

  1. I LOVE these data collection books!! It's so important to have students hold themselves accountable for their own learning goals, and this is the perfect way for them to do so!! It's also great to have a year-long reference of their ability!
Thank you so very much for linking up for Spotlight Saturday and sharing such an incredible resource! This is perfect for the beginning of the year!! I'm so glad you linked up!!
I head back to school August 17th, and my kinders come on August 26th.
